SENIOR LADIES TEAM

If any lady wishes to play for the Suffolk Senior team they need to be over 50 with a handicap index of 12 or less.  This season we have 5 East Region league matches against Essex, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Cambs & Hunts and Bedfordshire.  Selection for the team to play in the league matches is extremely competitive requiring a handicap index of the lower range but friendly matches allow for wider participation to include the higher handicap ladies. Overall the ladies enjoy both the competition and the friendliness of the matches played on a variety of excellent golf courses.

Seniors Away to Cambs/Hunts

The Suffolk Seniors played their last East Anglian League match on Monday 28 September away to Cambs/Hunts at Saffron Walden.  It was a beautiful day with temperatures still good for the time of year.  The course was undergoing major work on 2 holes but otherwise it played well.  The team battled hard against opposition who play the course regularly and 3 matches went to the 18th.  We came away with a respectable 3.5 – 2.5 loss.
Tina Jeary 1 down – Jackie Ewing
Lynne Barrett 1 down – Marcella Tuttle
Kris Matthews 2/4 loss – Lesley Gilchrist
Jo Miller 3/1 win – Jayne Miles
Rachael Goldsmith halved – Lynda Minton
Vicki Hunt 7/6 win – Jaine Fieldhouse
Thank you to Saffron Walden Golf Club who welcomed us warmly and provided the teams with Ham, Egg and Chips after the match which was delicious.

Seniors vs Bedfordshire at Halesworth

On the 17 August the Seniors played their 4th East Anglian League match against Bedfordshire at Halesworth.  The team was Lynne, Rachael, Sara, Jo, Gilly and Viv.

Lynne, Rachael, Sara, Jo, Gilly and Viv

It made a pleasant change for the weather to be quite a bit cooler than the 30+ temperatures we have seen recently.  As with all courses battling with the high temperatures and no rain the course had plenty of run.   Having Sara and Viv (members of Halesworth) on the team with local up to date knowledge of the course, gave us crucial advice giving us the edge over the opposition.  We came away with a convincing 6-0 win with a couple of close matches at the front of the field.  A special mention and congratulations to Viv who played her first League match and came away with a win.

Lynne Barrett     Win           1 up  –   Gill Westgate

Rachael Goldsmith   Win    2-1  – Claire Cummings

Sara Higgins    Win             3-2  – Helen Taylor

Jo Miller     Win                    8-7  – Marie Bayes

Gilly Smith      Win               4-3  –  Sarah Jackson

Viv Leech       Win                4-2  –    Sally Tyrell

Thanks go to Halesworth Golf Club for hosting this fixture and to the catering team for their efficiency, friendliness and providing a delicious meal after the match.

Seniors vs Hertfordshire

Seniors vs Hertfordshire

The Seniors team played Hertfordshire at Woodbridge GC on Friday 10th July. We received a warm welcome by the Club and the catering team provided an excellent service and the food, as always, was delicious.
It was a hot day and most matches were tightly fought. The Suffolk player’s determination was additionally buoyed by the inclusion into the squad and going out first Julie Otto. Amongst her many accolades a 5 times Curtis Cup player.  All matches were played in good spirits and we came away with a 5-1 win.
Julie Otto win 1 up – Janet Proudfoot
Sharon Luckman win 6/5 – Suzanne Thrower
Tina Jeary win 2/1 – Charlie Doyle
Lynne Barrett loss 1 down – Elaine Meagher
Helen Bray win 6/5 – Holly Lovell
Tessa Summers win 3/2 – Lindsay Murray-Gray
The Team showed great tenacity during the match, especially given the hot weather and it was lovely to watch a high standard of golf.

Suffolk Seniors v Norfolk Vets

On Monday 22 June the Suffolk Seniors went to Rookery Park for a match against the Norfolk Vets.  It was a 4bbb off scratch with 4 games being played.
The weather was gorgeous and helped by a cooling breeze. The course was in great condition and a pleasure to play.  All the games were tightly fought and played in the true spirit of golf.
Suffolk were victorious with a 4-0 win.
Trudy Read/Alice Palmer 2-1
Rachael Goldsmith/Viv Leech 2-1
Gillian Smith/Penny Cleveley 3-2
Louise Morse/Mariette Robbertse 1 up.
Another good win for the Seniors.
