Spring Meeting
After what seemed to have been weeks of rain the Monday of the first VETS Spring meeting was a gloriously sunny day with not a drop of rain. The greenkeepers at Bungay had really pulled out all the stops to get the course opened for the 80 plus ladies playing nine holes of golf before the lunch.
Sue Hayward the Juniors Organiser for the County gave a short presentation to update us on where the monies donated to the juniors was being used. This year it will be used to fund a trophy and medals for the junior girls championship with mention being made that they are donated by the VETs
Di Hegarty from Felixstowe and Kim ward from Fynn Valley took first place on the back nine.
Jane Pitcher and Jean Emmerson took first prize on the front nine
Championship Meeting at Seckford GC

SVLGA Vs Suffolk Seniors at Halesworth
Suffolk Seniors v Suffolk Vets on Friday 20th September 2024 @ Halesworth Golf Club
Playing for the Crystal Challenge Bowl the 4bbb matches, off handicap, provided an extremely close encounter. With sunshine and a sporting wind the standard of golf was impressive with three matches reaching the 18th green.
The first match out on the course was a nip and tuck affair with the Vets pairing of Eunice Gray and Wendy Flack forging ahead right at the end to win 2up.
In the second match, the Suffolk Vets were ahead all afternoon. Playing the 18th 1down, it required a brilliant birdie from Suffolk senior Rita Fossey to win the hole and level the match.
In the third match, some excellent golf from Kristina Matthews and Jude Hanner resulted in a 2 & 1 win for the seniors.
It all came down to the last game on the course and the last putt on the last green.
The much experienced Anne Archer calmly rolled in her four foot putt, followed by a fist pump and a big smile, to keep the match at A/S.
The final result a tied match at 2 all. Following last year’s victory the Suffolk Vets retained the Challenge bowl to the delight of their non playing captain Yvonne Southey, who had been supporting and encouraging all day.
My thanks to Halesworth Golf Club for their hospitality and the delicious post match meal.
