SENIOR LADIES TEAM

If any lady wishes to play for the Suffolk Senior team they need to be over 50 with a handicap index of 12 or less.  This season we have 5 East Region league matches against Essex, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Cambs & Hunts and Bedfordshire.  Selection for the team to play in the league matches is extremely competitive requiring a handicap index of the lower range but friendly matches allow for wider participation to include the higher handicap ladies. Overall the ladies enjoy both the competition and the friendliness of the matches played on a variety of excellent golf courses.

Senior Ladies Matchplay 2023

Rachael Goldsmith (Halesworth), was victorious today at Aldeburgh Golf Club winning the Seniors Ladies Championship on the 18th Hole against Sophie Warner (Aldeburgh).

There were 24 senior ladies for the 18 hole stroke-play competition at Aldeburgh Golf Club. The best gross was won by Vicki Hunt with a score of 81, beating Ann Fosker ocb. 

The best Nett score was Sarah Gotts with 69.

Suffolk Seniors v Norfolk Vets Wednesday 7 September ’22 @ Dunston Hall GC

The Suffolk Seniors had a very competitive but enjoyable match with the Norfolk Vets at Dunston Hall Golf Club.  This was a challenging course for those who were unaware of the exact location of the ponds and ditches and how far the dog leg was!  The course was playing very hard and bouncy, like most courses, and some managed the conditions better than others!  A deluge of rain (what is this wet stuff???!!!) came down towards the end of the day but was short lived and fortunately there was no thunder.

All games were played in excellent spirit and the match was drawn 2 – 2, playing 4BBB off scratch, a very creditable result against strong opposition.  Our thanks to the Norfolk Vets and Dunston Hall for hosting us – a great match and day was had by all.

Suffolk Seniors v Essex Seniors

East Region Seniors Women’s League

The Suffolk Seniors headed for Wanstead Golf Club to play their league match against Essex. The day was sunny and warm but, fortunately, not the heat that we have been experiencing this summer. Wanstead, like all golf courses, has suffered from the lack of rainfall so some interesting bounces and odd lies were had but it did not detract from an enjoyable day and good golf being played. The tree-lined fairways caused problems on occasions as did the lake. Also a very friendly fox wanted to investigate some of our golf bags by the 6th green, presumably in search of food, and then wandered around the next tee generally keeping an eye on us just in case!
The matches were, as usual, very competitive but friendly and I am pleased to report that Suffolk came out on top, 41/2 to 11/2. The results are below; the matches are singles off scratch.
