Well, the weather forecast was grim with thunder and lightning predicted along with multiple downpours. In the end the rain did come, but thankfully not the thunder and lightning! But it was rather torrential as we got about half way through the front 9, then we all dried pout, so much so that it was actually rather warm, and then on the very last hole the heavens opened up yet again, reminding us just how wet you can get in a few minutes of pounding rain.
Because the forecast was so bad, it was agreed that we would play a friendlier game rather than match play between the 2 Counties. So teams consisted of 2 Suffolk ladies and 2 Cambs/Hunts ladies, full handicap, stableford scoring, with the best 2 scores, one of which had to be from each County. It worked well, made the games more enjoyable, and got everyone chatting as teams.
Rushmere did us proud with teas/coffees on arrival, a much needed lunch of various filled jacket potatoes and salad garnish, followed once again by t/c’s. The course ran well and our visitors said they enjoyed some of the quirky holes that Rushmere has to offer, and the greens were in excellent condition.
There were 6 teams of 4. The winning team came in with 87 points, 2nd was 82 points, followed by 79,75,72 and 71 points, so a good win by the victors of the day.
We were honoured to have Cambs / Hunts president, Anne Burridge, playing and she presented the prizes of a sleeve of balls to each winning team member, which was greatly appreciated.
The SLPPC ladies consisted of: Caroline Emeny, Carol Brown, Lesley Barnes, Becky Draper, Viv Leech, Rita Bird, Yvonne Southey, Veronica Middlehurst, Sheila Price, Sue Poole, Carol Perks and Caroline Osmer.
