In incredibly warm conditions on a beautiful autumn day, 37 ladies from the SLPPC Society took part in the golf after the AGM preceded by a very welcome bacon roll. The format was teams of 4 with best 2 scores on all the par 3s, and best 3 scores on all the other holes. Additional to that there was a Nearest the Pin and a Longest Drive. It was actually so warm and sunny that some of us were regretting putting away our summer golf umbrellas which work so well in keeping us cooler.

Stowmarket did us proud. The fairways are recovering well after the dry summer. The only issue as some of us aren’t used to having to play off grass anymore so that was challenging! The catering was superb and a light meal was enjoyed after the golf.

Winners on the day were Di Heggarty, Jane Bell, Caroline Emeny and Kathy Holmes coming in with 104 stableford points. Jane played a phenomenal front half getting 23 points and was deemed the secret weapon when the results were announced. In 2^nd place was Heather Beynon, Sue Fraenzel, Janet Hodge and Lesley Barnes with 98 points, and 3^rd was Bev Gray, Tina Daubney, Carol Perks and Ros Clement with 96 points. Longest Drive was won by Vicki Hunt, and Nearest the Pin was Caroline Emeny.

A thoroughly enjoyable days golf was had by all!

Well, the weather forecast was grim with thunder and lightning predicted along with multiple downpours. In the end the rain did come, but thankfully not the thunder and lightning! But it was rather torrential as we got about half way through the front 9, then we all dried pout, so much so that it was actually rather warm, and then on the very last hole the heavens opened up yet again, reminding us just how wet you can get in a few minutes of pounding rain.

Because the forecast was so bad, it was agreed that we would play a friendlier game rather than match play between the 2 Counties.  So teams consisted of 2 Suffolk ladies and 2 Cambs/Hunts ladies, full handicap, stableford scoring, with the best 2 scores, one of which had to be from each County. It worked well, made the games more enjoyable, and got everyone chatting as teams.

Rushmere did us proud with teas/coffees on arrival, a much needed lunch of various filled jacket potatoes and salad garnish, followed once again by t/c’s. The course ran well and our visitors said they enjoyed some of the quirky holes that Rushmere has to offer, and the greens were in excellent condition.

There were 6 teams of 4. The winning team came in with 87 points, 2^nd was 82 points, followed by 79,75,72 and 71 points, so a good win by the victors of the day.

We were honoured to have Cambs / Hunts president, Anne Burridge, playing and she presented the prizes of a sleeve of balls to each winning team member, which was greatly appreciated.
