Suffolk Seniors Anglian League v Hertfordshire

Our second Anglian League match of the season against Hertfordshire was held on a beautifully sunny day at East Herts Golf club. Large undulating greens with tricky pin positions added to the challenge of the day.
With two of our best players missing, it was down to the very experienced Vicki Hunt to lead out the team. She did not disappoint and brought home our first point with a very impressive 3&2 win. The second and third matches were well contested but went the way of Hertfordshire. Gillian Smith came up against an East Herts member who’s home advantage proved too great to overcome. With two matches left out on the course it was all to play for. Ann Fosker stayed patient and finally drew ahead on the last two holes. Rachel Goldsmith put in a putting master class to take control of her game and bring home the point needed to secure an overall halved match. To draw away from home is always a satisfying. Well played team.
Thanks to East Herts Golf Club for their warm welcome, a well presented course and some excellent catering.

Suffolk Seniors Anglian League v Essex Seniors

Suffolk began their Anglian League campaign with an excellent win over their Essex opponents. Aldeburgh golf club proved a great test of golf, with fast running greens and beautiful fairways and the added challenge of high winds.
Sharon Luckman, leading the team out, showed all her experience, played extremely well to post an impressive win over Essex Captain Julie Finegan. Following closely behind, team mates Lynne Barrett and Rachel Goldsmith both won convincingly.
There were losses for Pippa Neall and Ann Fosker, leaving the final match on the course.
Playing the last 1 down, Gillian Smith showed all her strength and composure to win the last and secure the all needed half a point. With both teams looking on it showed great strength of character.
Our thanks to Aldeburgh Golf Club for hosting, their warm welcome and for the delicious catering. Possibly the best sausage rolls ever!!

Newton Green Golf Club

It was a beautiful sunny day for our second friendly match of the season. Playing 4bbb on a tricky Newton Green course the matches were keenly contested with the final result decided on the last putt in the last match on the 18th green.
There were debut appearances for Helga Edwards and Karen Larbey of Ipswich Golf Club joining many familiar names.
County President Vicki Hunt was on sparkling form with putts dropping from all over the greens. She and playing partner Tessa Summers enjoyed a comfortable 4&3 win.
In contrast Ann Fosker and Helga Edwards struggled on the greens loosing to the Hertfordshire Captain and her partner 5&4
Kristina Matthews and Jude Hanner played some impressive golf to hold their opponents to a half.
In the final match, Gillian Smith and Karen Larbey narrowly lost out on the final green.
Many thanks to Newton Green for their warm welcome, delicious lunch and well presented course.
