On 27th September, the Weston final was held at Bury St Edmunds Golf Club. Where first time finalists and 2021 Weston Plate Winners; Stowmarket, took on a very strong Felixstowe Ferry team for the Weston trophy. Congratulations to both teams for reaching the final, and putting on a fantastic display of golf, with the eventual winners; Felixstowe coming out on top with a 4.5 – 0.5 victory over Stowmarket to claim back the title they last won back in 2024.
Felixstowe Team with Andy Weston
Both teams had the pleasure of meeting Mrs Toddles Westons’ son; Andy Weston, who came to experience the day and present the trophy to the winners. The Weston Trophy was first presented in 1980 by the retiring president, Mrs Toddles Weston. The Competition was instigated originally with the intention of improving the competitive element of the county’s best golfers who might be able to go through to play at county level.
Mr Weston brought a picture of his mother presenting the trophy back in 1980 to the winning club. Mrs Weston is pictured just left of the trophy, however if anyone can recognise any of the other ladies in the picture, please do comment or email us!
